A Clockify alternative with free invoicing

Clockify is a generous free timer. tab gives freelancers the rest for free too: rates, invoices, client sign-off and online payment.

Updated 2026-10-01

Clockify’s free plan covers unlimited tracking, timesheets and reports for up to 5 users. Billable rates and CSV export start on the Basic plan, and invoicing needs Standard ($5.49 a seat a month yearly, $6.99 monthly). Clockify’s invoices record payments you mark by hand; collecting card or bank payments isn’t built in.

Why freelancers switch

  • No plan to buy to send an invoice. Rates, invoices and payments are free in tab.
  • Paid online, not marked paid. Clients pay by bank transfer or card from the invoice link.
  • Built for one freelancer, not a team: no seats, no manager approvals, nothing watching your screen.

Where Clockify is the better fit

Clockify is built for teams: unlimited users on free, kiosks, scheduling and approvals. If you manage a team’s time, it does far more than tab.

Move your hours to tab

  1. In Clockify, go to Reports → Detailed, pick the date range, then Export → CSV. CSV needs Basic or higher; on the free plan, export PDF (up to 31 days at a time) or copy the rows into tab’s timesheet to invoice tool.
  2. Sign up for tab free at app.tabwork.app (email only, no card).
  3. Go to Settings → Your data → Import, and drop in the CSV. tab recognizes Toggl Track, Clockify and Harvest exports automatically; for anything else you confirm which column is the date, the hours and the description.
  4. Check the preview (clients, projects and hours per client), then import. You can undo an import.

Your history comes with you, so your reports and real hourly rate start from day one.
